In this article, Vanderwicken talks about how the news that we are consuming today is not the truth, how every story has a spin on it pushed by the government for their own image and self-interest. They take a story, make it a lot more dramatic than it really is and make it known that they are "solving" the problem to look good in the eyes of the public. He believes that the government and the news media are working together for mutual benefit and I agree with this.

An example Vanderwicken gave of this is the 1980 Gramm-Rudman-Hollings Amendment. A more recent example of this that I gave in my presentation was how the government responded to the Covid-19 pandemic and in particular the vaccine protocol.

In this article, Pennycook highlights that one of the main reasons for 'fake news' is that it's politically motivated. It is said that people believe these lies as it suits their political opinion instead of finding out what the truth is.

An example of this was in the Trump vs Biden presidential election when Trump went to Twitter to try to get people to stop the count and accused the political left side of cheating with vote counts and exaggerating numbers in the count.
